Monday’s feeder sale featured a good run of light to mid weight calves and an excellent cow market, with strong demand on all classes. Slaughter cows were sharply higher this week, with excellent buyer demand, especially on good high yield cows, with several interests on the market for the best cows. Cows topped out at $163.00 per cwt, an all time high at our market, while the average price ranged from $142.00-$146.44 on all cows. Slaughter bulls sold for $150.00-$160.00 per hundred weight. Feeder cattle were also in good demand, especially on the light end, with a run this week heavy on heifers. Steers and bull calves weighing 400-500 pounds sold for up to $382.50, with an average price of $341.25. Heifers in the same weight class brought $352.50 at the top end, and averaged $328.86. 500-600 weight steers and bull calves brought up to $341.00, with an average price of $298.56. 500-600 weight heifers averaged $288.23, and topped out at $316.00. Heifers weighing 600-700 pounds hit a high of $287.00, with an average of $277.18. 700-800 weight steers sold for $260.00. Next week we’ll have an all class cattle sale, and expect the market to remain strong, especially for cows and bulls. Our next feeder sale will be Monday, March 17.
