Monday’s feeder special featured an excellent market on calves and yearlings, and a strong cow run on a steady to higher cull cow market. Slaughter cows averaged $143.00-$146.00, with a top price of $162.00, $7 over last week’s high price. Feeding type cows sold from $174.00 to $205.00. Cow calf pairs sold from $2800 on solid mouth cows, to $3850 for 3 year olds with bigger calves at side. Feeder cattle were also stronger this week, with 400-500 weight steers bringing right at $4 per pound. Light heifers weighing 400 pounds brought $430.00. Steers weighing 500-600 sold up to $375.00, and averaged $350.00, while heifers in the same weight range brought up to $360.00 and averaged $334.00. 600-700 pound steers topped out at $384.00, with an average of $335.00. Same weight heifers brought up to $350.00, and averaged $303.00. 700-900 pound steers brought up to $296.00, and averaged $280.00. 1000 pound steers sold for up to $283.00, dolloring out at over $2800 per head. Next Monday, May 19th, we’ll have an all class cattle sale, and we will be off the following Monday, May 26th, for the Memorial Day holiday.
